Itas Trentino Trento extended their winning streak in the Italian men’s championship by adding the third victory to their SuperLega Credem Banca record on Sunday. Rising star Alessandro Michieletto spiked successfully 21 times to lead his team to an important 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-11, 26-24) home win over defending champions Cucine Lube Civitanova. Trentino’s experienced Bulgarian captain Matey Kaziyski impressed with four aces towards a 17-point match total, while Brazil’s Ricardo Lucarelli was Lube’s most prolific player on 18 points. Trentino continue to top the standings on a 3-0 win-loss record and an impeccable nine points. Lube are now down to sixth on 1-2 and four.

On Saturday, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza were pushed to five at home by Allianz Milan, but were able to claim a 3-2 (16-25, 25-21, 26-24, 20-25, 15-6) victory and also remain unbeaten in three matches since the start of the season. Turkish opposite Adis Lagumdzija was once again the best scorer of the match on 19 points, all in offence. It was Allianz’s first loss in two matches played.

Vero Volley Monza moved up to the third place in the standings edging over Sir Safety Conad Perugia who were off this weekend. Last year’s Supercoppa finalists delivered a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-18) home shutout of Gioiella Prisma Taranto in the third leg’s last match on Sunday evening to improve to 2-1 and seven points. Well-seasoned German opposite Gyorgy Grozer was once again Vero Volley’s leading scorer on a total of 22 points, including four kill blocks and an ace.

Kioene Padua and Consar RCM Ravenna engaged in a rollercoaster five-set battle. The visitors from Ravenna came back from a set down twice in the match, but finally the home team from Padua edged ahead again to snatch a 3-2 (25-14, 23-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-8) victory, their second win in three matches. Their German opposite Linus Weber delivered a match-high 23 points, including three aces. The positive result brought Kioene up to the fifth place in the table.

Leo Shoes PerkinElmer Modena celebrated their first win of the season to occupy the seventh position in the current standings. On Saturday, Frenchman Earvin Ngapeth (19 points, including four aces and three stuffs) and Dutchman Nimir Abdel-Aziz (17 points) led their teammates to a 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-22) home victory over Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia to improve to 1-1 and push the visiting side down to 1-2.

Top Volley Cisterna celebrated their first win of the season. Despite a 29-point tally by Slovenian teenager Rok Mozic, hosts Verona Volley were unable to register their first success. The visitors from Cisterna di Latina managed a 3-1 (25-20, 29-27, 19-25, 25-21) victory on a 21-point contribution by Poland’s Arthur Szwarc.

All six games of the upcoming fourth leg are scheduled on Wednesday, November 3.
