While table leaders and defending champions Prosecco Doc Imoco Volley Conegliano were picking up the silver medal at the FIVB Women's Club World Championship in Ankara, Igor Gorgonzola Novara missed their chance to catch up at the top of the standings as the fell in straight sets to Savino Del Bene Scandicci 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-22) in Round 12 of the Italian women's League on Sunday evening.

Instead, led by Ofelia Malinov, who earned the MVP of the match award for her performance and a match high of 15 by Brazil's Natalia Pereira, Scandicci have now closed in to within two points of Novara in the standings.
It brings an end to Novara's ten-match winning streak (including European Champions League matches).
Conegliano, who had already played their Round 12 match last month, defeating Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri in straight sets, remain in the lead three points clear of Novara.
But tied with Novara in second place are now Vero Volley Monza who on Saturday afternoon shut out Megabox Ondulati Del Savio Vallefoglia 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) on the road at Urbino, on the back of a match high 20 points and MVP performance by Belgium's Lise Van Hecke.

In other weekend action, France's Lucille Gicquel scored 26 for the MVP of the match award and Federica Squarcini added four blocks as Bosca S.Bernardo Cuneo outlasted Bartoccini-Fortinfissi Perugia 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-10, 15-11).
And Delta Despar Trentino shut out Acqua & Sapone Roma Volley Club 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-22), led by MVP and top scorer on 14 points Eleonora Furlan.
To wrap up the weekend, MVP of the match Camilla Mingardi with a match high of 22 points led Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio as they outblocked Vbc Trasporti Pesanti Casalmaggiore 13 to 6 for a 3-1 (15-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-19).
The Volley Bergamo v Il Bisonte match has been postoponed due to four positive Covid-19 cases amongst the Bergamo players.
The Italian league continues next Sunday with Round 13 - the last in the first half of the Regular Season.
